The Frankfurt Book Fair, scheduled for October 8-12, 2014, has announced a cooperation with Latin American University Presses. Born as an initiative of Latin American networks including university presses and the Frankfurt Book Fair, the International Convention is a worldwide opportunity to present and create interaction among national and regional networks of University Presses, and to provide a platform for discussions on common issues in academic publishing at international level.

SPIE Fellow Glenn Boreman elected to serve as 2015 Vice President of SPIE
SPIE Fellow Glenn Boreman, Professor and Chairman at the Department of Physics and Optical Science and Director of the Center for Optoelectronics and Optical Communications at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Plasmonics, Inc., has been elected to serve as the 2015 Vice President of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. With his election to Vice President, Boreman joins the SPIE presidential chain and will serve as President-Elect in 2016 and as the society’s President in 2017.

Library Investment Index summarizes relative size of ARL University Libraries for 2012–13
The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has released the Library Investment Index for 2012–2013, the latest in this annual summary measure of the relative size of the university library members of the Association. Although similar to the ARL Membership Criteria Index in reflecting the investments made in research libraries, the ARL Library Investment Index is less affected by the electronic availability of content and, consequently, the rapidly changing context of library collections.
