Frankfurt Book Fair 2014 begins
This year the Frankfurt Book Fair began with a very thought provoking conference organised by the International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers (STM) on October 7. Cathy Wolfe President & CEO, Medical Research, Wolters Kluwer, keynote speech began with an active programme on discussing the ways clinicians, nurses and other health professionals access and consume content on their various devices. On the first day of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Rich Kobel from Scope e-Knowledge kicked off a very dynamic Hotspot session discussing the role of descriptive metadata & Controlled vocabularies in improving semantic linkages.

CAS and Obiter Research collaborate to provide SciFinder to scientists at Obiter Research

Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC) has announced that scholarly publishers De Gruyter, Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Publishing, and Maney Publishing have chosen to automate the collection and management of author charges by leveraging the integration between RightsLink for Open Access and Aries Systems’ Editorial Manager. The integration of Aries Systems’ Editorial Manager and RightsLink for Open Access provides scholarly publishers with a seamless way to collect article processing charges (APCs) from within the Editorial Manager workflow.

Mobile phone reading on the rise in the US and UK, says Publishing Technology study
An increasing number of people are now using their mobile phones to read ebooks, a survey by Publishing Technology has revealed. The survey of 3,000 consumers across the US and UK found that 43 percent have read an ebook, or part of an ebook, on their handsets, and that 66 per cent (59 per cent UK/ 72 per cent US) of mobile phone book readers currently read more on their phones than they did last year.

Annual Reviews, the non-profit publisher that synthesises critical research literature, has announced the launch of Annual Review of Virology. This journal will capture and describe the most important advances in our understanding of viruses of animals, plants, bacteria, archaea, fungi, and protozoa. The journal will be edited by Professor Lynn W. Enquist (Henry L. Hillman Professor of Molecular Biology at Princeton University).
