Frankfurt Book Fair 2014 – Day 2 highlights
On the second day of the Frankfurt Book Fair, EDP Open, the Open access arm of EDP Sciences, released the results of a survey to appraise attitudes toward Open Access amongst learned society publishers. The survey was answered by 33 Learned societies and results were further supplemented by a focus group held at the annual UKSG meeting in April 2104.

Wolters Kluwer Health has announced that its Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) textbooks and digital guides were honoured with 12 prizes at the 2014 BMA Medical Book Awards. Sponsored by the British Medical Association (BMA), the annual Medical Book Awards are recognised as among the most prestigious and influential in medical publishing. Thieme won the First Prize in the Oncology category and Highly Commended in the Radiology and Surgical Specialties categories.

Gale signs new publishers, increases STEM content in Virtual Reference Library
New content covering popular healthcare and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) topics is now available on Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL), the e-book platform offered by Gale, part of Cengage Learning. The signing of publishers Taylor & Francis, Mitchell Lane, HCPro and World Scientific combined will add about 750 e-books to GVRL, bringing the total number of available titles on the platform to 15,000 from over 150 publishing partners.

The London Book Fair (LBF), in association with The UK Publishers Association (The PA), has announced that submissions are now open for the LBF International Excellence Awards 2015. Entries for the awards need to be registered online via the LBF website by January 9, 2015. The shortlist will be announced in February 2015.
