Springer cooperates with MOOC organisers worldwide
Effective immediately, the organisers of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) can negotiate special rates regarding the purchase of Springer print and eBooks. Students who have registered for a free online course can order these books through a special URL. Additional types of content, for example journal articles, can also be provided for use as course material at a reduced rate.

Elsevier announces agreement to participate in CLOCKSS archiving of ebooks
STM publisher Elsevier has announced its agreement to participate in CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) archiving of ebooks. CLOCKSS is a community-governed archive committed to open access. As a not-for-profit venture between academic publishers and research libraries, CLOCKSS is building a sustainable, geographically distributed archive.

IOP Publishing launches new journal – Biomedical Physics & Engineering Express, expands biomedical portfolio
Non-profit scientific publisher IOP Publishing (IOP) has announced the launch of the Biomedical Physics & Engineering Express (BPEX) journal. The journal will join IOP’s rapidly growing family of biomedical titles. BPEX will be a broad, inclusive, rapid-review journal that will cover all areas of biomedical engineering, biophysics and medical physics, with a special emphasis on the interdisciplinary work within these areas to help promote crossover research.

COAR announces publication of COAR Roadmap: Future Directions for Repository Interoperability
Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) has announced the publication of the COAR Roadmap: Future Directions for Repository Interoperability. This document is the culmination of over a year’s work to identify priority issues for repository interoperability. The preparation of the roadmap was spearheaded by Friedrich Summann from Bielefeld University in Germany, with support from a COAR Editorial Group and input from an international Expert Advisory Panel.

Semantic Web journal accepted for indexing in Journal Citation Reports
The Semantic Web journal (SWJ) has been accepted for coverage in Thomson Reuters‘ Science Citation Index Expanded and the Journal Citation Reports. Because of the timing of the journal’s acceptance, it will be included in the 2015 JCR, to be published summer 2016. The Impact Factor will be announced then.
