Taylor & Francis Online announces developments to enhance readers and researchers online reading experience
Academic publisher Taylor & Francis Online has announced a range of developments to enhance readers’ and researchers’ online reading experience. The changes aim to take reading PDFs beyond a print-like experience by making the most of what the web has to offer. They combine Interact, a reimagined PDF which is currently rolling out across Taylor & Francis’ journals; a cleaner, clearer cover sheet for PDF articles; and, using, the external expertise of colwiz, interactive tools to allow readers to annotate articles, quickly find referenced articles with clickable citations, and discover relevant content.

Elsevier’s ChemSearch Challenge allows chemists to demonstrate how fast they can find relevant information
STM publisher Elsevier has announced that the Reaxys ChemSearch Challenge is now live. In the series of 12 weekly online quizzes, chemists can use their preferred chemistry database or search engine to find the information they need to correctly answer research questions. The contest will record chemists’ response times and score accuracy, measuring how quickly chemists can operate and identify bottlenecks in research.

BibLibre and EBSCO announce partnership
A new partnership between EBSCO and the French Open Source software and services company, BibLibre, continues EBSCO’s support of Open Source software that offers flexible options to libraries. The partnership will strengthen the interoperability between EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) and Koha, an Open Source ILS deployed by Biblibre in France since 2002, through the use of an application that allows EDS to be the discovery service and front-end of choice.

OCLC to work with seven leading libraries to launch linked data pilot
OCLC, the non-profit computer library service and research organisation, is working with seven leading libraries in a pilot program designed to learn more about how linked data will influence library workflows in the future. Pilot participants will be able to surface WorldCat Person entities, including 109 million brief descriptions of authors, directors, musicians and others that have been mined from WorldCat, the world’s largest resource of library metadata.
