The International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) and the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) have announced that SSP is co-sponsoring a new Academic and Professional Publishing track at the IDPF Digital Conference at BookExpo America 2016 (May 11-12, McCormick Place, Chicago). IDPF Digital @ BEA is the longest-running professional conference for the digital publishing industry.

Elsevier and the Egyptian Government sign multi-year agreement to expand access to scientific and medical information and tools
STM publisher Elsevier has announced a multi-year agreement with the Egyptian Government, which supports the country’s aim to further develop as knowledge-driven society and strengthen its position as an education hub in the Arab region. The agreement was signed by Prof. Tarek Shawki, Secretary General of the Presidential Specialized Councils on behalf of the Egyptian Government, and Gino Ussi, Elsevier’s Executive Vice President Research Solutions Sales.

CHORUS in deal with the U.S. Geological Survey to advance public access to research
CHORUS, a non-profit organisation, has signed an agreement with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), a science agency for the US Department of the Interior, a federal agency, to work together to implement the plan to increase public access to publications resulting from research funded by USGS. The agreement, which is effective immediately, will help move USGS’s effort to the next phase of their existing public-access framework.

Emerald pilots integration with Publons to enhance peer reviewer recognition
Academic publisher Emerald Group Publishing is piloting a year-long integration with Publons to give its reviewers verified recognition for their peer review work. Publons works with peer reviewers, academic publishers, and research institutions to make peer review a rewarding activity. As a result of the partnership, Emerald reviewers will be able to opt-in to have their reviews for the 10 participating Emerald journals automatically added to their reviewer profile on Publons.

Barbara Preece joins OCLC Board of Trustees
Barbara Preece, Director, Loyola Notre Dame Library, officially took her seat on the OCLC Board of Trustees during the Board’s November meeting. She was elected to the Board by OCLC Global Council in April 2015. Loyola Notre Dame Library, located in Baltimore, Maryland, serves Loyola University Maryland and Notre Dame of Maryland University. Preece currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and the Maryland Digital Library Board.
