Open-access journal Frontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics has announced the availability of Dynamical Systems as a new specialty section. Led by Specialty Chief Editor Axel Hutt, senior researcher at the German Weather Service in Offenbach, Germany, the primary objective of this section is to provide a channel of communication among mathematicians, applied scientists and practitioners interested in the theory, methods and applications of dynamical systems and their use to model the time evolution of real systems.

The Optical Society applauds passage of the American Innovation and Competitiveness Act
The Optical Society (OSA) has issued a statement on the passage and signing of the American Innovation and Competitiveness Act, which promotes investment in research and development innovations that will better allow U.S. companies to compete in the international marketplace. The National Institutes of Health has announced that National Library of Medicine Director Dr. Patricia Flatley Brennan will assume an additional role as NIH Interim Associate Director for Data Science. Her appointment begins immediately.
