Clarivate Analytics, the global leader in providing trusted insights and analytics to enable the research ecosystem to accelerate discovery, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences have released ‘Research Fronts 2017’, their joint annual report identifying 143 prominent areas of scientific research over the past years. This is the fourth collaborative report from the two organisations and was launched at the joint forum held at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.

 Springer Nature blocks access to at least 1,000 articles in China
Springer Nature, which owns Nature magazine and Palgrave Macmillan books, and produces periodicals such as Scientific American, has reportedly pulled access to a small number of articles in China to comply with regulations. The publisher has viewed the move as regrettable but necessary. In a statement, Germany-based Springer Nature has said that less than one percent of its content had been ‘limited’ in mainland China.

 European University Association publishes statement welcoming EU’s current Open Science policies
The European University Association (EUA) has recently published a statement welcoming the efforts of National Governments and the European Commission in promoting Open Science values in their national research funding schemes and in the EU Research and Innovation Framework Programme. This statement follows the previous recommendations EUA provided to its members ‘Towards Full Open Access in 2020’ and ‘Towards Open Access to Research Data’, and highlights the role of the OpenAire platform in the adoption of good research, sharing and assessment practices.

 MDPI appoints new Editor-in-Chief for Toxins and Section Editor-in-Chief for Bacterial Toxins
