 37% of UK research outputs freely available immediately at the time of publication, says new report
The Universities UK Open Access Coordination Group has released a report, according to which, the proportion of UK research which is available via open access is increasing at a considerable rate, with 37% of research outputs freely available to the world immediately at publication. This report, Monitoring the transition to open access: December 2017, is the second in a series commissioned by the Universities UK Open Access Coordination Group.

 Springer and MATRIX to co-publish new book series covering pure and applied mathematics and statistics
Springer, part of Springer Nature, and the international Mathematical Research Institute MATRIX, based in Melbourne in Australia, have signed a collaboration agreement to publish a new book series. The cooperation further strengthens Springer’s relationship with the mathematical sciences in Australia, while also bringing the work of MATRIX and Australian mathematicians to an international audience.

 Taylor & Francis Group and the Mathematical Association of America announce publishing partnership
Academic publisher Taylor & Francis Group and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) have announced a new publishing partnership beginning in 2018. Under the deal, Taylor & Francis Group will publish three journals on behalf of the association: The American Mathematical Monthly, College Mathematics Journal, and Mathematics Magazine, as well as one of the association magazines, Math Horizons.

 American Chemical Society names Dr. Stuart J. Rowan as new editor-in-chief of ACS Macro Letters
The American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced that Dr. Stuart J. Rowan, professor at the Institute for Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago, has been appointed the new editor-in-chief of ACS Macro Letters, the Society’s rapid and urgent communications platform for original research in polymer science. Rowan has served as the deputy editor of ACS Macro Letters since its inception in 2011. He will succeed Editor-in-Chief Timothy P. Lodge in January 2018.

 SAGE set to publish the Journal of Perioperative Practice
Academic publisher SAGE Publishing has announced that it will begin publishing the Journal of Perioperative Practice (JPP) on behalf of the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) from early 2018.  Nature lauds four Spanish scientists for outstanding mentoring
Four Spanish scientists have been recognised by scientific journal Nature for exemplary personal mentoring of other scientists. The Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science have been hosting these annual awards since 2005 to champion the importance of mentoring and inspiring a generation of young scientists. The 2017 awards have for the first time taken place in Spain.
