 Nature Research and NASA partner for a new Nature conference on the Microbiome of the Built Environment (MoBE)
Nature Research and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will be convening a new conference designed to guide NASA’s approach to interaction with and control of the Microbiome of the Built Environment (MoBE) of future spacecraft including transports, habitats, landers, rovers and spacesuits. Taking place at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston in the summer of 2019, this three-day event will help to shape NASA’s microbiological research goals. The MIT Libraries and the Royal Society of Chemistry have signed a license agreement that incorporates elements of a traditional subscription purchase and open access to scholarly articles. The experimental two-year agreement, known as ‘read and publish,’ is seen as an important step on the path toward making more research freely and openly available to the world.

Academic publisher SAGE Publishing has announced that four of its titles will receive awards from the Textbook and Academic Authors Association (TAA) at their annual conference on June 15. TAA’s Textbook Excellence Award (“Texty”) recognises excellence in current textbooks and learning materials, while the Most Promising New Textbook Award honours first edition works and the McGuffey Longevity Award recognises in-demand textbooks and educational materials that have been in print for at least 15 years.

 COAR convenes meeting to discuss implementation of technical recommendations in the COAR Next Generation Repositories Report
The Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) recently held a meeting of open source repository platforms to talk about the implementation of technical recommendations in the COAR Next Generation Repositories Report. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Open Repositories Conference in Bozeman, Montana, and was attended by representatives from several of the open source repository platforms.
