 NIH to host full-day public workshop on using AI and ML to advance biomedical research
The National Institutes of Health is hosting a full-day public workshop, Harnessing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to Advance Biomedical Research. The workshop will feature leading experts from Amazon and IBM, and scientists from the NIH Clinical Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and the University of Cincinnati who are employing AI/ML in biomedical research settings.  African Journal of Laboratory Medicine issues call for papers for special issue on the future of diagnostics
In 2019, the African Journal of Laboratory Medicine (AJLM), will publish a special issue devoted to The Future of Diagnostics. The issue aims to highlight recent advances in technology and the landscape for diagnostic innovation. It will emphasise diagnostics for high burden, emerging and neglected communicable and non-communicable diseases, particularly those that threaten or are endemic to the African continent.

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has announced an increase in Impact Factor for three of its journal titles – Food and Bioproducts ProcessingProcess Safety and Environmental Protection and Chemical Engineering Research and Design. All three now sit in the top three of peer-reviewed chemical engineering journals.

 IUCr appoints Mike Glazer as Editor of IUCr Newsletter
The International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) has appointed Mike Glazer as the Editor of the IUCr Newsletter, which will be relaunched in an entirely electronic format in summer 2018. Mike will be replacing Bill Duax, who retired last year after 25 years at the helm.
