Wolters Kluwer Health has highlighted the critical role of patients, as 4,000 hospitals in the US react to public reporting of sepsis quality scores on Medicare’s portal, Hospital Compare, which poses potential reputational and financial risks. Sepsis now accounts for more than 12 percent of all hospital readmissions-far exceeding rates of heart disease, pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
