 Springer Nature and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation partner to improve data sharing
A new pilot project by Springer Nature and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) enables researchers to make their research datasets accessible alongside their published articles. From February 2019, all authors whose manuscripts are accepted for publication by npj Breast Cancer will be reviewed by a Research Data Editor who is responsible for cataloguing, describing and sharing the datasets that accompany the research paper.

 SAGE Publishing issues statement on Plan S
Academic publisher SAGE Publishing has released a Statement on Plan S. The signatories of Plan S seem frustrated by the pace of transition to open access (OA). However, SAGE believes that the hybrid option is a crucial element in the transformation, as long as it is underpinned by meaningful local and global offsetting polices and liberal Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) archiving policies. While the global publisher does not view hybrid OA as an end in itself, it has an important role to play in the transformation of less well-funded disciplines.

 ORCID announces formation of ORCID Austria Consortium
ORCID has announced the recent formation of an ORCID Austria Consortium, which aims to increase the uptake and relevance of the ORCID iD as a unique identifier for researchers. The ORCID Austria Consortium is the result of several years of nationwide discussion, initiated by the Scientometrics Working Group of the University of Vienna in 2014, about the introduction of a person identifier in the Austrian scientific community.

Simon Fraser University (SFU) has established an institutional membership agreement for open access publishing with Frontiers. The Simon Fraser University Library (SFU Library) supports its researchers in making their research more widely available. As part of this support, Simon Fraser University has entered an institutional agreement with Frontiers.

 OCLC and Couperin.org partner to enhance EZproxy authentication software
Non-profit global library cooperative OCLC has announced a partnership with the Couperin.org Consortium, the French non-profit that developed ezPAARSE software with the CNRS Institute for Scientific Information, to enhance OCLC’s EZproxy authentication software with analytics features and to expand the use of ezPAARSE outside of France. EZproxy access and authentication software allows libraries to deliver e-content simply and effectively through a single sign-in using existing library-issued credentials, such as a library card number and PIN or username and password.
