IOP Publishing and the American Physical Society (APS) have signed up to the ORCID Open Letter, committing to collecting ORCID iDs for authors submitting to their journals following stated best practices. ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) claims to be a not-for-profit organisation that provides a unique digital name, or iD, which identifies researchers and scholars, and distinguishes them from others with similar names. Academic publisher SAGE Publishing has announced that SAGE Research Methods Video has received an Award of Excellence and Index on Censorship magazine has received a Grand Award from the Annual Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX Awards). Alternative metrics provider Altmetric has announced that the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Publishing has integrated Altmetric data into its journal platform to highlight the online shares and discussion surrounding published articles. CSIRO Publishing is part of the federal government agency for scientific research in Australia, and publishes books, journals and magazines across a range of scientific disciplines.
