 ‘Open for Whom? Equity in Open Knowledge’ to be the theme of 2019 International Open Access Week
The 2019 Open Access Week Advisory Committee has announced that the theme for the 2019 International Open Access Week, to be held October 21-27, will be ‘Open for Whom? Equity in Open Knowledge.’ This year’s theme will build on the groundwork laid last year when discussions focused on ‘Designing Equitable Foundations for Open Knowledge.’ The 2018 theme highlighted the importance of making a central commitment to equity as we transition toward new systems for sharing knowledge, and the past twelve months have only seen the pace of that transition increase.

 The Cambridge Structural Database reaches one million structures
The Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC), experts in structural chemistry data, software and knowledge for materials and life science research and application, has announced a huge milestone for structural chemistry with the addition of the millionth structure into the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD). The CSD is the world’s repository of highly curated experimentally determined organic and metal-organic crystal structures.

 CSHL, Yale University, and BMJ set to launch new preprint server for the health sciences
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), Yale University, and BMJ have announced the forthcoming launch of medRxiv (pronounced “med-archive”), a free online archive and distribution service for preprints in the medical and health sciences. medRxiv is expected to begin accepting manuscripts on June 6th and will be overseen by the three organisations. medRxiv will host manuscripts from researchers around the world, regardless of their organisational affiliation, will be publisher-neutral, and will be guided in its mission by an international advisory board.
