American Chemical Society’s first OA journal ACS Central Science wins PROSE innovation award |
ACS Central Science, the first fully open access journal published by the American Chemical Society (ACS), has won the PROSE Journal/Award for Innovation. Presented by the Association of American Publishers, the PROSE awards recognise excellence in professional and scholarly publishing. The PROSE innovation award, which acknowledges the unique achievements of new journals, is issued at the judges’ discretion and is not presented every year.

The Western Sydney University and ProQuest have collaborated to provide digital textbooks for commencing university students through the University’s library, reducing the cost of education to students and increasing access to required learning materials. One of the world’s largest initiatives of its kind, Western Sydney University is differentiating itself from other universities by making etextbooks from 60 academic publishers available to students via Ebook Central, ProQuest’s innovative new ebook platform.

OASPA to host Twitter Chat on open access publishing in the Global South |
The Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) will host a live Twitter chat about open access publishing in the Global South with Xin Bi (Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University/DOAJ), Ina Smith (Academy of Science of South Africa), Abel Packer (SciELO), and Lars Bjørnshauge (DOAJ) on February 22, 2017, from 1pm-2pm BST (8am EST). Participants may tweet their questions about open access publishing in the Global South using the hashtag #OASPAChat, and Xin, Ina, Abel and Lars will be there to answer them in real time.

International Water Association extends its use of Aries’ technology with the adoption of ProduXion Manager |
Online submission system provider Aries Systems Corporation has announced the adoption of its web-based journal production tracking system, ProduXion Manager, by IWA Publishing. Commencing in 2017, IWA Publishing will roll-out ProduXion Manager to its journals to facilitate post-acceptance workflow. Manuscript files and metadata are automatically transferred to workflow participants, such as copy editors and vendors.
