The Society for Scholarly Publishing has announced that its 38th Annual Meeting is scheduled for June 1-3, 2016, at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver, British Columbia. ‘Crossing Boundaries: New Horizons in Scholarly Communication’ has been revealed as the theme of the 38th Annual Meeting. A Call for Participation has been opened for the event. Proposals for sessions will be accepted now through November 20.

Academic publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) has announced that the first content from licensing agreements with several leading academic publishers is now available on Oxford Scholarly Editions Online (OSEO). This October’s update includes the 20-volume University of California Press edition of the Works of John Dryden ­(to date, the longest-running research project in the humanities ever undertaken at UCLA), volumes of the Edinburgh edition of the Works of Thomas Reid, and 16 British Academy titles. Innovative open access agreement between Springer and Jisc to benefit UK researchers
Researchers in the UK will now be able to publish their articles open access in over 1,600 Springer hybrid journals without cost barriers or administrative barriers. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled October 16 that Google’s massive project to make digital copies of tens of millions of books does not violate copyright laws. The opinion, by a three-judge panel of the appellate court, affirms an earlier decision by a New York district court that had also rejected the copyright-infringement claims that the Authors Guild and three writers had brought against Google.

Highlights of the third day of Frankfurt Book Fair
On the third day of the Frankfurt Book Fair, highlighted events included the opening of the ‘Media and Technology Forum’ as part of the ‘New European Media Summit; Peace Prize winner Navid Kermani discussed Iranian literature; and a press conference highlighted the results of the ‘Frankfurt Undercover’ discussions throughout the week where 30 international writers debated the topic of extremism. The Frankfurt Book Fair is the international publishing industry’s biggest trade fair – with 7,100 exhibitors from more than 100 countries, around 270,000 visitors, over 4,000 events and around 9,300 accredited journalists in attendance.

AIP Publishing begins opening federally funded research to the public
