Cambridge University Press and VSNU announce full OA journals agreement
Academic publisher Cambridge University Press (CUP) and the universities in the Netherlands recently concluded a three-year agreement guaranteeing 100 percent open access to academic journals. As of June 1, researchers at Dutch universities will be able to publish articles in CUP’s full open access journals via the so-called ‘gold route’.

AAP files amicus curiae brief in important copyright case concerning whether ‘used’ creative digital content can be resold in the online environment
The Association of American Publishers (AAP) has filed an amicus curiae brief in Capitol Records, LLC v. Redigi, Inc., an important copyright case concerning whether ‘used’ creative digital content can be resold in the online environment. AAP has urged the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit to affirm the district court’s decision, which found no plausible legal interpretation under the Copyright Act that would permit a company to reproduce and resell digital music files without a license.

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has released Data Curation, SPEC Kit 354, an exploration of the infrastructure that ARL member institutions are using for the active and ongoing management of data through its life cycle of interest and usefulness to scholarly and educational activities. This SPEC Kit covers which data curation services are offered, who may use them, which disciplines use services most, library staffing levels, policies and workflows, and the challenges of supporting these activities.

Clarivate Analytics and Digital Measures partner to integrate Web of Science and InCites content into Activity Insight
For many academic institutions, keeping faculty activity and profiles up to date is a time-consuming data entry exercise. With the newly announced partnership between Clarivate Analytics and Digital Measures, Web of Science and InCites content is now integrated into Activity InsightTM, Digital Measures faculty activity reporting software, enabling faculty profiles to be updated in real time. The integration uses API calls into the Web of Science content to keep faculty activity up-to-date and relevant.

IET announces new President-elect
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has announced that Nick Winser CBE will become its next President, taking up the position on October 1, 2017. Other appointments taking effect from October 1 include Dr Peter Bonfield who becomes Deputy President. Meanwhile, Jayne Bryant and Dr Simon Harrison both become IET Vice Presidents.

Springer celebrates 175 years since its founding
Scientific publisher Springer is celebrating its 175th company anniversary. The foundations for today’s company were laid on May 10, 1842 when Julius Springer, at the age of 25, opened his bookstore and publishing house in Berlin. His aim was to bring current and accurate scientific findings to the wider public. The publishing house remained a family business for four generations. Now Springer is an international scientific publisher with over 50 locations worldwide, and it belongs to the publishing group Springer Nature.

Medical and scientific publisher Thieme has signed a publishing and distribution agreement with NANDA International, Inc. (NANDA-I). Under the terms of this contract, Thieme will be taking over the English and certain other rights to publish, sub-license, and sell future editions of NANDA International Nursing Diagnoses: Definitions and Classification and the NANDA-I diagnostic system.
