Facing up to the challenges of education and culture policy – Education at the Frankfurt Book Fair
Digitisation and globalisation have made it necessary to rethink our education and cultural policies. Technology companies like Apple, Microsoft and Google are investing more and more in educational activities, while trends such as massive open online courses (MOOCs) are bringing into question the need for classrooms and face-to-face exchanges with teachers. This year, the Frankfurt Book Fair Literacy Campaign – LitCam and the Frankfurt Book Fair have invited a number of education experts to analyse these trends, and to attempt some predictions about the future of the education sector.

EBSCO Information Services releases Serials Price Projection for 2015
The 2015 Serials Price Projection Report from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) advises that the overall effective publisher price increases for academic and academic/medical libraries are expected to be in the range of 5 to 7 percent (before currency impact). EBSCO releases the Serials Price Projections based on surveys of a wide range of publishers and reviews of historical serials pricing data to assist information professionals as they make budgeting decisions for the upcoming renewals season.

STM publisher Springer and Social Sciences Academic Press (China) are launching a new English-language book series called Research Series on the Chinese Dream and China’s Development Path. The new co-publishing agreement will be officially announced at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair by Prof. Peilin Li, Vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Dr. Heinz Weinheimer, Executive Vice President of Springer Science+Business Media; and Jihui Cai, Marketing Director of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

NSF grants $1 million to MU to expand supercomputer equipment and expertise for big data analytics
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded $1 million in two grants to the University of Missouri to install a supercomputer enabling data-intensive research and education at MU in fields such as bioinformatics, geoinformatics, high performance computing and engineering applications. The grants also will fund the position of a cyberinfrastructure (CI) engineer at MU.
