Nobel Laureates’ publications now open for free access in SPIE Digital Library
Research papers published by six 2014 Nobel Prize recipients whose accomplishments in physics and chemistry have been enabled by photonics are being made freely available in the SPIE Digital Library through the end of 2014. The innovations recognized for this year’s Nobel prizes in Physics and in Chemistry utilize light-based science and technology in the development of sustainable LED lighting, smart phone and computer displays, and more accurate medical diagnostics and treatments, and have illuminated the path to new areas of research.

ARL membership elects ARL Board of Directors 2014–2015
Deborah Jakubs, the Rita DiGiallonardo Holloway university librarian and vice provost for library affairs at Duke University, began a one-year term as president of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) on October 8, 2014, during the ARL Membership Meeting in Washington, DC. Jakubs succeeds Carol Pitts Diedrichs, vice provost and director of university libraries, the Ohio State University, as ARL president.

New AERA open access journal now accepting article submissions
AERA Open, a new scholarly journal from the American Educational Research Association (AERA), is now accepting article submissions. The publication is among the first open access journals to be launched by a scholarly social science society. As with AERA’s other six journals, SAGE will publish AERA Open on behalf of AERA.

Rasenberger to succeed Paul Aiken as Authors Guild Executive Director
Mary Rasenberger, a six-year Copyright Office and Library of Congress veteran and partner at the media law firm Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams and Sheppard, will succeed Paul Aiken as Authors Guild Executive Director on November 3rd. Rasenberger’s selection follows a national search by a committee of the Authors Guild Council, the Guild’s governing board. Her candidacy received the unanimous support of the Council. Aiken will work for the Guild as a consultant for the next two years.

Ingram Content Group Inc. is expanding its print-on-demand (POD) and distribution reach to Poland through a Lightning Source Inc. Global Connect alliance with Azymut, a media publishing and distribution group in Poland.
