Nature Index: A new global indicator for high quality science shows growing strength of China
The growing contribution to science of Chinese institutions such as Chinese Academy of Sciences is one striking pattern revealed in the recently launched Nature Index. High quality science outputs of 20,000 institutions worldwide can now be easily analysed with the new Nature Index. A freely accessible website is available at natureindex.com and to celebrate this beta release, the Nature Index 2014 Global is published as a supplement to Nature.

CDISC and HIMSS collaborate on standards-based health IT solution, linking patient care with clinical research
The Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) and HIMSS have extended their existing and long-standing relationship and, in collaboration with Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) USA, will work together to foster the adoption of standards to enable the interoperability of health IT systems. CDISC currently partners with IHE on standards development through the Quality, Research and Public Health domain, and demonstrates interoperability capabilities at the HIMSS Interoperability ShowcasesTM.

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of four new environmental science books. The Genetics Society of America (GSA) is partnering with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) Press to assist authors in submitting unpublished manuscripts to bioRxiv, a fast-growing preprint server for the life sciences. GENETICS and G3: Genes|Genomes|Genetics, the journals of the GSA, will this month enable authors to submit a manuscript for peer review to either journal and, simultaneously, to post the manuscript as a preprint on bioRxiv.
