Elsevier and China Electric Power Press co-publish inaugural book in new Energy Series
STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of Ultra High Voltage AC/DC Grids by Zhenya Liu, President and CEO of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). This is the first book released under the co-publishing agreement between Elsevier and China Electric Power Press (CEPP), the publishing subsidiary of SGCC. The companies are currently signing additional books for the new Elsevier and CEPP Energy Series.

German National Library of Science and Technology successfully negotiates licence for SPIE Digital Library
The Alliance licence for the SPIE Digital Library, which the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) negotiated with SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, came into force on 1 January 2015. The SPIE Digital Library contains 420,000 scientific contributions from conference proceedings, periodicals and electronic books covering areas such as optics, photonics, biomedicine and microelectronics. Some 18,000 articles are added to the collection each year.

American Physical Society names Kate Kirby as CEO
The American Physical Society (APS) Board of Directors voted to select Kate Kirby as the first Chief Executive Officer of APS effective February 2. Kirby has served as Executive Officer of the Society since July 2009. Before coming to APS, Kirby served as Senior Research Physicist and Associate Director of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (1988-2001), heading the Atomic and Molecular Physics Division.
