As the second major earthquake struck Nepal less than three weeks after more than 8,000 people died in a devastating quake, UK-based Evidence Aid has joined the world’s renewed response. It is helping health workers decide what to do, and what to avoid. Evidence Aid, an international initiative set up to provide the best evidence on the effects of interventions before, during and after disasters, is providing much needed knowledge support to health workers in Nepal. BitLit, creators of an inventive app that enables publishers to offer ebook bundles to readers, has selected Bowker Global Books In Print® database to power its new ‘Shelfie’ function. Readers use the app to take a photo of their bookshelf (a “Shelfie”). Computer vision algorithms then identify titles on the shelf that are available to the reader at a free or discounted price from publishers participating in BitLit’s bundling service.
