Perceptions of open access publishing are changing for the better, reveals NPG and Palgrave Macmillan survey
A survey of 22,000 academic researchers by Nature Publishing Group (NPG) and Palgrave Macmillan has found that a decreasing number of authors are concerned about perceptions of the quality of open access publications. In 2014, 40 percent of scientists who had not published open access in the last three years said ‘I am concerned about perceptions of the quality of OA publications.’ But this year, only 27 percent said they were concerned.

Wiley and the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers announce publishing agreement
Publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has announced a new publishing agreement with the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP). Under the contract the company will publish the ALPSP journal, Learned Publishing from January 2016 through December 2020. Learned Publishing is the official journal of the ALPSP and publishes on a quarterly basis.

Holtzbrinck Publishing Group reorganises management structure, appoints John Sargent as EVP
Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, a Stuttgart-based publishing holding company, has reorganised its management structure following the formation of Springer Nature earlier this year, with Macmillan’s John Sargent assuming the role of HPG’s executive vice president, reporting to group CEO Stefan von Holtzbrinck. Sargent, formerly Macmillan Publishing CEO, will now assume the role of executive vice president of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group and take on responsibility for the higher education business as well as continuing to manage the global trade business.

Wolters Kluwer’s clinical decision support resource UpToDate accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners
The Health division of Wolters Kluwer, a global provider of information and point of care solutions for the healthcare industry, has announced that the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) has accredited its clinical decision support resource, UpToDate. UpToDate contains over 10,500 clinical topics and more than 9,600 graded recommendations to support better clinical decisions at the point of care.

The Proceedings of the National Academy of Science journal joins the Independent Scholarly Publishers Group collection
The National Academy of the Sciences (NAS) recently joined The Independent Scholarly Publishers Group (ISPG) by adding its journal, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, to the ISPG collection. The journal is one of the world’s most-cited and comprehensive multidisciplinary scientific journals, publishing more than 3,500 research papers annually.

SPIE Fellow Maryellen Giger, A.N. Pritzker Professor of Radiology, Committee on Medical Physics, and the College Vice-Chair of Radiology at the University of Chicago, has been elected to serve as the 2016 Vice President of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. SLACK Inc. announces increased impact factor for the Journal of Refractive Surgery
SLACK Incorporated, an independent STM publishing company, has announced that the Journal of Refractive Surgery’s impact factor has increased by 25% compared to last year. According to data released by the Journal Citation Reports® (JCR) Thomson Reuters, 2015, the Journal’s impact factor for 2014 is 3.468 with a ranking of 7 out of 57 ophthalmology journals. This is an increase over the Journal’s 2013 impact factor of 2.781 and a ranking of 11 out of 58 ophthalmology journals.
