Jisc selects ProQuest to deliver key ebook content to UK Further Education colleges
ProQuest has teamed with Jisc to create a custom ebooks collection that provides key texts for Further Education (“FE”) Institutions across the UK. The new special collection of 73 titles has been created using content from such publishers as Hodder Education, Bloomsbury, Taylor & Francis, and Pearson, and focuses on core subjects on the syllabus for A Level, BTEC and NVQ students.

Harold Varmus appointed Chairman of F1000 International Advisory Board
F1000, the innovative biomedical publishing group, has strengthened its world- leading faculty of researchers in biology and medicine with the appointment of Nobel Laureate and former National Institutes of Health (NIH) director Harold Varmus as the Chairman of its International Advisory Board. He will begin chairing the advisory group for F1000 on November 2.

SPARC, Higher Education groups support Lingua Editors, Open Access
Following in the footsteps of other editors and authors, the six editors and thirty-one editorial board members of the Elsevier journal Lingua resigned on October 27, 2015, in protest of Elsevier’s practices. The Lingua editors argued that the journal’s price has steadily increased year after year, far outpacing the cost of production. The editors also cited Elsevier’s refusal to transition the journal to a ‘fair open access’ model that would charge low and transparent article processing fees for authors, while allowing authors to retain copyright to their articles.

National Diversity in Libraries Conference 2016 calls for presentation proposals
The National Diversity in Libraries Conference (NDLC ’16), cosponsored by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Library and the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), will take place on the UCLA campus August 10-13, 2016. The NDLC ’16 Program Committee is inviting presentation proposals that address the conference’s theme of ‘Bridges to Inclusion,’ highlighting issues related to diversity and inclusion that affect staff, users, and institutions in the library, archive, and museum (LAM) fields. Presentation proposals are due by November 30, 2015.
