In a new partnership with Wiley Education Services, a division of Wiley that provides tailored services and technology solutions to higher education institutions, the University of Bath will launch its first fully online master’s degree programs as part of an initiative to broaden its international reach. The first programs, set to launch in 2019, will be the MSc Applied Economics (Banking & Finance), the MSc Computer Science, and the MSc Entrepreneurship Management and Innovation. The MIT Press and the University of Michigan Press recently announced plans to start selling their ebook collections directly to libraries by creating their own distribution platforms. Previously, the publishers did not have a mechanism for selling to institutions directly. Instead, access to ebooks was largely brokered through third-party acquisition services such as ProQuest, EBSCO, Project Muse, OverDrive and JSTOR. By taking control of the distribution of their ebook collections, MIT Press and the University of Michigan Press will soon join a very select group of university presses that sell their collections directly to libraries. A coalition of library and research community representatives, comprising EBLIDA, DCC, IFLA and SPARC Europe, recently submitted their position and proposed amendments to the Directive 2003/98/EC on the reuse of public sector information. The two documents were shared with EU rapporteurs and shadow rapporteurs with the request that these amendments be taken forward for consideration for the next stage of the process.
