 Wellcome Trust and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation join European open-access plan
Two of the world’s largest biomedical research funders have backed a plan to make all papers resulting from work they fund open access on publication by 2020. On 5 November, the London-based Wellcome Trust and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle, Washington, announced they were both endorsing ‘Plan S’, adding their weight to an initiative already backed by 13 research funders across Europe since its launch in September. The plan was spearheaded by Robert-Jan Smits, the European Commission’s special envoy on open access.

 CCC co-funded Resource Access for the 21st Century (RA21) Corporate Pilot Report published
The International Association of Scientific, Technical, and Medical Publishers (STM) and the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) have released their RA21 Corporate Pilot Report, co-funded byCopyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC). The report identifies best practices for adopting a federated identity approach to streamline the user experience for access to subscribed content outside institutional internet protocol (IP) domains.

 Frontiers distributes content to institutional repositories via Jisc’s Publications Router service
Frontiers has announced that it is the latest open access publisher to automatically distribute content to institutional repositories via Jisc’s Publications Router service. Having published more than 95,000 articles to date in 61 journals, covering 500 academic disciplines including in Life Sciences, Health, Engineering and Humanities, Frontiers will now deposit content from all these journals into Router for onward delivery to the relevant repositories.
