 Directorate of National Research Data Infrastructure to be located in Karlsruhe
The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) has the objective to systematically index, edit, interconnect and make available the valuable stock of data from science and research. So far, these data have mostly been available in a decentralised, project-related, or temporary form. The federation and the states will fund the NFDI jointly. The Joint Science Conference (GWK) has now decided to establish the NFDI Directorate in Karlsruhe and to entrust Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and FIZ Karlsruhe with the corresponding tasks in the complex foundation phase.

 IOP Publishing to include 80 journals in DeepDyve’s rental service for scientific and scholarly research
DeepDyve, an online rental service for scientific and scholarly research, and IOP Publishing (IOPP) have announced that IOPP will add 80 of its scientific journals to DeepDyve’s rental service for peer-reviewed journals. IOPP’s portfolio represents an important addition of physics-related content to DeepDyve’s continually expanding library of more than 20 million articles, sourced from more than 15,000 journals.

On June 4, 2019, BMJ Open published an open access paper which defines the ‘certainty of net benefit’ as a proposed method to report the impact of clinical recommendations. The paper’s lead author, Dr. Brian S. Alper, is the founder of DynaMed®, a point-of-care information resource for healthcare professionals that provides a synthesised and curated summary of the best current evidence and guidelines. Defining Certainty of Net Benefit: A GRADE Concept Paper describes in detail how a guideline developer or other information provider reporting evidence and guidance for healthcare can explicitly determine and express the certainty that the benefits outweigh the harms for a specific decision.
