Performance by John Wiley and Sons Inc. in the 2019 release of Clarivate Analytics’ Journal Citation Reports (JCR) holds strong, maintaining its position as a top publisher in terms of the number of titles indexed, articles published, and citations received. Wiley maintained its share of JCR papers at 9.7%, publishing 7% more papers than last year.

 Public Library Association condemns Macmillan Publishers library lending model
The Public Library Association (PLA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has joined its parent organisation in denouncing Macmillan Publishers’ new library eBook lending model. Under the new model, scheduled to take effect November 1, a library may purchase only a single copy of each new title in eBook format upon release, after which Macmillan will impose an eight-week embargo on additional copies of that title sold to libraries.

 CRKN and CARL investigating national solution for minting DOIs with DataCite
The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) and the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) are investigating the feasibility of a national consortial approach to DataCite, the global non-profit organisation that provides persistent identifiers (DOIs) for research data and other research outputs. DOIs are persistent identifiers for digital objects and are widely used for identifying published content, datasets, and other scholarly research outputs.
