ORCID invites inputs for ORCID in book workflows initiative
The Open Research and Contributor ID (ORCID) has announced that it is now widely integrated in manuscript submission systems for journals including Aries Editorial Manager, eJournalPress, Open Journal System, and ScholarOne. With the recent launch of their Collect & Connect program, intended in part to help clarify best practices for integrating ORCID iDs, the time seemed right to engage with the community on the use of ORCID in book workflows.

Data science company ÜberResearch has announced that Dimensions, its global grants database for science funders now tracks research grants totalling 1 trillion US dollars. The global database consists of funds representing over 250 funding organisations, and 2.37 million funded projects. The Dimensions database allows users to look into the future: More than $300 billion are attributed to research funds of current, active projects – allowing a clear view on the research which will be undertaken in the forthcoming years.

IEEE recently updated their IEEEXplore platform to be IPv6 aware, which means that if a user’s machine has an IPv6 address assigned to it – even if the machine has both an IPv6 address and a regular IP (“IPv4”) address available – the IPv6 address will take precedence for authentication. Highland City Library selects SirsiDynix software solutions and data housing to support growth
Library automation solutions provider SirsiDynix has announced that Highland City Library, a local library in Utah, has opted for its SirsiDynix Symphony for new ILS. Highland City Library chose to adopt SirsiDynix’s Symphony following a competitive tender process. The Johns Hopkins University has been awarded a two-year $938,000 grant from the Andrew W. Investing in academic excellence does lead to research impact, says new HEFCE report
A report for the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) by Digital Science reveals that the scholarly significance of research underpins its societal impact. The report titled ‘Publication patterns in research underpinning impact in REF 2014‘ is the first report to analyse all research publications submitted for research assessment between 1988 and 2014. The study found that at least 42 per cent of the research cited in impact case studies in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF2014) had been submitted as research outputs to the various prior research assessments.

SAGE Publishing reports continued strong growth in 2016 release of Journal Citation Reports
Academic publisher SAGE Publishing reported continued strong performance and growth across its journals portfolio in the Journal Citation Reports (Source: 2015 Web of Science Data). Springer Nature and Tsinghua University Press present the third Nano Research Award
Peidong Yang, the S.K. and Angela Chan Distinguished Professor of Energy and Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, and a faculty scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, has received the third Tsinghua University PressSpringer Nano Research Award. The award is accompanied by a cash prize of US $10,000. The award ceremony was held during the 2016 Sino-US Symposium on Nanoscale Science and Technology on June 20, in Nanjing, China.
