Academic publisher Brill, through its regional office in Singapore, Brill Asia, has opened a branch office in Beijing, supporting its sales and marketing activities. The official opening took place during the 24th Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF). A festive reception for the opening of Brill China was held at the Residence of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the presence of Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. For many university libraries, space shortage remains a major challenge, particularly balancing the need for increasing study space while some physical collections continue to grow. The HE sector has worked in partnership with the British Library (BL) since 2007 to manage print journals collaboratively through the UK Research Reserve (UKRR) programme funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE)to balance the need for increasing study space while some physical collections continue to grow. The community has worked together in creating and enhancing a national distributed collection so participating libraries can make informed decision about their print stock whilst ensuring continued access to print research material. Marin County Free Library selects OCLC’s CONTENTdm to manage digital collections |

OCLC has announced that the Marin County Free Library’s Anne T. Kent California Room, earlier this year, switched from locally hosting CONTENTdm to CONTENTdm hosted by OCLC. The library also switched to CONTENTdm’s new responsive end-user interface, which has improved the display of its oral history collections as well as the display of hundreds of images in the collections. The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) has announced the appointment of Jeff Moon as the next Director of Portage. He succeeds Chuck Humphrey, who has held this role since September 2015. Portage is a national research data management (RDM) initiative developed by CARL to assist researchers and other RDM stakeholders, through a library-based network of expertise and national platforms for planning, preserving, and discovering research data.
