 Applications now open for Inspiring and Innovating Science Awards 2019
Leading women scientists and promoters of science to girls and young women are encouraged to apply for this year’s Inspiring Science and Innovating Science Awards. The two annual awards are administered by Nature Research in partnership with The Estée Lauder Companies, and underline the commitment of both organisations to promote gender equity in scientific research and education. Applications can be made via an online application form between 5 March and 6 May. Winners will be announced in October 2019.

 Research4Life and GOALI to develop common online training modules for its programmes
Research4Life launched GOALI (Global Online Access to Legal Information) in March 2018 to provide developing countries with access to academic legal content and training. For the first anniversary, the team launched a feedback survey in order to better understand what their users need. More than 77 users from about 20 low- and middle-income countries shared their experiences. Half of them were librarians, 26 percent researchers, and almost 10 percent work as government officials.

 Reflections from OCLC EMEA Regional Conference
The 2019 OCLC Conference for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa was held in the Palais Du Pharo in Marseille. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Change the Game’. The conference interrogated the role of the modern library as an agent of change and explored the transformation of library collections, spaces, and activities. It examined the need for diversity and inclusion within library audiences, the role of libraries within their communities, the relationship between research and public libraries, and the nature of the evolving scholarly record.

 ARL organises Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week 2019, highlights balance in the copyright system
The sixth annual Fair Use/Fair Dealing Week took place February 25 – March 1, 2019, with 163 participating organisations as well as numerous individuals worldwide. The Association of Research Libraries (ARL)organised the event and participants included universities, libraries, library associations, and many other organisations, such as Authors Alliance, the Center for Media & Social Impact, New Media Rights, and Re:Create. Fifty-one ARL member institutions contributed a wide range of resources this year.
