STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of three new encyclopedias – the Encyclopedia of Mental Health, Meyler’s Side Effects of Drugs, and the Encyclopedia of Forensic and Legal Medicine. The encyclopaedias are available on both the Elsevier Store and ScienceDirect, Elsevier’s full-text scientific database offering journal articles and book chapters from over 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and more than 33,000 book titles.

Springer and the Brazilian Center for Research and Development launch book series – Telecommunications and Information Technology
STM publisher Springer and the Brazilian Center for Research and Development (CPqD) have signed an agreement to jointly publish an international book series called Telecommunications and Information Technology. The books are aimed at both researchers and corporate professionals. Two to four books will be published annually.

Dr. Stephen M. Hewitt named new editor-in-chief of the Journal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry
The Histochemical Society has selected Dr. Stephen M. CHORUS in deal with the U.S. Geological Survey to advance public access to research

SPARC, Higher Education groups support Lingua Editors, Open Access
Following in the footsteps of other editors and authors, the six editors and thirty-one editorial board members of the Elsevier journal Lingua resigned on October 27, 2015, in protest of Elsevier’s practices. The Lingua editors argued that the journal’s price has steadily increased year after year, far outpacing the cost of production. The editors also cited Elsevier’s refusal to transition the journal to a ‘fair open access’ model that would charge low and transparent article processing fees for authors, while allowing authors to retain copyright to their articles.
